- Incheon National University expands community sports facilities… full-scale public use of the Jemulpo Campus begins
- Following the opening of parking facilities, the athletic field is now also opened to citizens, further expanding public access
Incheon National University (President: In-jae Lee) announced that it has completed renovation work on the Jemulpo Campus athletic field and will fully open the facility to the public starting January 5, 2026.
This opening was 추진된 to meet the growing demand for everyday sports activities among local residents and to expand public sports infrastructure in the urban area. It is particularly meaningful as the first tangible outcome of long-standing discussions and preparations regarding the utilization of the Jemulpo Campus, marking a visible shift toward active public use of campus facilities.
Since 2024, the university has pursued a phased improvement project to expand the public use of the Jemulpo Campus. Through this project, outdated and unused structures within the athletic field were removed, the ground surface was improved through soil replacement, and a new soccer field was constructed. In addition, two basketball courts were newly installed adjacent to the soccer field.
In particular, the university installed and renovated a management building and restrooms, and established electrical and communication infrastructure—including street lighting, CCTV, and broadcasting systems—providing safety and convenience facilities comparable to those of public municipal facilities so that all local residents can use the space with confidence.
The university plans to designate the period from January through February as a pilot operation phase to identify potential operational issues that may arise during actual use. After refining management systems, including the introduction of a reservation system, full-scale operation will begin in March. This approach reflects preparation for sustainable operation rather than a one-time opening.
Currently, the Jemulpo Campus hosts lifelong education programs for citizens operated by Incheon National University. In addition, in 2022, a parking facility with approximately 100 spaces was constructed and opened to local residents, continuing the step-by-step opening of campus facilities to the community.
Through the opening of the athletic field, Incheon National University aims to establish the Jemulpo Campus as an everyday living space for local residents and as a public asset jointly created by the university and the local government. The university plans to continue strengthening ties with the community and further expanding the public use of campus spaces.
